Va. GOP Chair Will Stand Up To Fat Cats!

Embattled political figure goes kamikaze

Virginia state GOP chair Jeffrey Frederick continues to be "embattled" as his possible removal comes to a vote on April 4. The man who lost the party every competitive election last November and singlehandedly ruined an opportunity for his party to take control of the state Senate with a dumb Twitter message... well he will never resign. And on Tuesday he sent a letter to his supporters -- the "grassroots" -- with some pretty harsh language for the few people (every GOP state official) who are trying to force his ouster.

While state leaders issued 10 charges against Frederick in their own letter last week, the basic problem seems to be that Frederick is stubborn and impossible to work with. How could anyone tell?

Frederick's response today went somewhat nuclear, and if he somehow does keep his chairmanship after April 4, he will not be able to work with anyone, anywhere, ever again:

Frederick said he represents the party's grass roots in a clash against the "small minority" who want to turn the Virginia GOP "into a rubber stamp for its long-time insiders."

"For years, the Virginia Republican Party had been run from the top down, with consultants and lobbyists providing far more input into the direction of our party than the grassroots," said Frederick, who blamed national and Virginia party leaders for loss of U.S. Senate and House seats in 2006.

Yes, that's right: the state GOP chair essentially called the entire state GOP apparatus corrupt. Which is probably true, but funny that we're only hearing about it now.
