Va. Dept. of Health Selects VCU Professor to Lead Crater Health District

Dr. Alton Hart Jr. research focused on health issues that affect black men

The Virginia Department of Health has selected a Virginia Commonwealth University physician and researcher as its new public health director for the department's Petersburg-area district.

The agency said in a release that Alton Hart Jr. to lead its Crater Health District.

Hart has been associate scientific director for VCU's Center on Health Disparities for the past four years. He's also served as the Massey Cancer Center's Adult Cancer Survivorship Clinic and has taught at VCU's medical school.

While at VCU, Dr. Hart's research focused primarily on health issues that affect black men, including cigarette use and prostate cancer.
