Man Pleads Guilty for Failing to Deliver Medical Equipment

A business owner at the center of a News4 consumer investigation pleaded guilty to criminal charges in Virginia and Maryland. Consumer Reporter Susan Hogan has the latest. (Published Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019)

A Virginia businessman accused of taking thousands of dollars from customers but failing to deliver medical equipment pleaded guilty to charges in Maryland and Virginia.

A News4 consumer investigation found dozens of cases against Access Mobility owner Jim Clore filed in civil courts throughout Virginia dating to 2009.

In one case, Karen Nurse of Gaithersburg, Maryland, gave Clore $3,500 — $2,500 of her own money — for a ceiling lift for her daughter. He failed to deliver and she got one elsewhere.

Clore was charged with felony theft and pleaded guilty Monday. He will be sentenced in January.

Last week, Clore pleaded guilty to three felony charges in Stafford County, Virginia. A fourth charge was dismissed. He was sentenced to three years with all of that time suspended.

In Spotsylvania County, Virginia, Clore faces construction fraud charges. Molly Harned and Kumyon Morris say they paid him for medical equipment they never received. That trial is set for December.

Clore said the business is closed and he's working other jobs to earn money so he can pay his customers back.

He said he never intended to defraud anyone.
