VRE Approves 3 Percent Rate Increase

Last time Virginia Railway Express Board raised fares was in 2009

Travelers planning to use the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) this summer should prepare for a rate hike set to begin July 1.

The minimum one-way ticket will cost $3, a 10-cent increase. A maximum one-way ticket will go up 35 cents to $10.65.

A monthly pass for the Fredericksburg Line will cost $294.10, while the monthly pass for the Manassas Line will cost $241.20.

VRE expects the increase will generate about $900,000 in additional revenue next year. That money will be used to pay for rising fuel costs and day-to-day operations.
