Virginia Students Charged in Noose Incident

Two white teens accused of assaulting black student

Two white teenagers in Chesterfield County, Va., are charged with simple assault after allegedly trying to put a noose on a black student.

The incident happened May 11 at Thomas Dale High School, police said. The 14-year-old target told investigators that two male teens grabbed him and tried to put a rope around his neck during an after-school activity. The alleged victim was not injured, police said.

The alleged attackers are older than the alleged victims. A 16-year-old and a 15-year-old were charged with simple assault on Wednesday.

Because of the nature of the incident, additional charges are possible. Police are discussing the matter with prosecutors, officials said.
