Missing Va. Boater Presumed Drowned

Boat sank in rough weather

A Virginia man is missing and presumed drowned after his boat sank in the Potomac River.

Police said the boat encountered rough conditions while en route from Pope's Creek in Charles County, Md.,  to King George County, Va., Monday night.

Heavy winds and waves battered the 20-foot boat, which took on water and sank about two miles from the Route 301 bridge.

Glen Marton Dawson, 52, of King George, was able to swim to shore and summon help.

The other boater, Daniel Ray Myers, 36, also of King George, is presumed to have drowned.

Neither man was wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident. Police said that of 17 boating fatalities last year, life jackets were not used in 16.
