Uber Driver Accused of Sexual Assault of Passenger in Virginia

An Uber driver sexually assaulted a passenger in Virginia last week, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

A woman told authorities she’d been out drinking with friends when the driver picked her up in Herndon about 1:30 a.m. Dec. 27. She used Uber to get a ride to a home in the Sterling area, according to the sheriff’s office.

During the trip, the driver stopped the car, got in back with the woman and sexually assaulted her, she told investigators.

She reported the attack later that day.

The sheriff’s office arrested the driver, 44-year-old Kal Y. Hartemariam, Thursday and charged him with aggravated sexual battery and forcible sodomy. He is being held without bond.
