A University of Virginia student and the man accused of killing her had a fight a few days before her death, newly released documents filed in Charlottesville Circuit Court show.
Yeardley Love, of Cockeysville, Md., was found dead in her apartment May 3. Her ex-boyfriend and fellow lacrosse player, George Huguely, of Chevy Chase, Md., is charged with murder.
According to search-warrant affidavits released late Tuesday, police have fragments of an e-mail they believe Love sent to Huguely relating to a fight between the two. The e-mail fragments were extracted from the memory of Love's laptop computer, which was recovered from a trash bin where Huguely told police he had dumped it.
Charlottesville police detective Lisa T. Reeves wrote in the affidavit that the e-mail "is evidence of a prior incident between Huguely and Love." At the prosecutor's request, the text of the e-mail was blacked out on the copy of the affidavit that was made public.
The affidavit also says one of Love's sorority sisters told police she saw a fight in which Love hit Huguely with her purse in Huguely's apartment.
Huguely is being held without bond. He told police that he kicked in Love's bedroom door, shook her and her head hit a wall several times, according to previously released documents. The medical examiner's office said Love died of blunt-force trauma.
Huguely's lawyer has said the death was accidental.
