UMD Student Raped in College Park Home

Police say they want students in the area to be on guard

Prince George's County police are alerting University of Maryland students after a 21-year-old woman was raped Sunday.

The assault happened off campus, in the 7500 block of Dickinson Avenue, a popular neighborhood where students live.

Police say the man entered the victim's home while she was asleep, climbed into bed with her and sexually assaulted her around 5 a.m.

The victim screamed and her attacker fled.

Police say they want students in the area to be on guard.

"We're telling everyone, when they get home, lock the doors, shut the windows," Larry Johnson, a police officer with the Prince George's County, told News4. "If they have any exterior lighting, turn it on. If they have [a] light in their foyer, go ahead turn that on."

Officials are still searching for the suspect, who is described as a Middle Eastern or Latino man of medium height and small build, with dark hair and dark eyes.
