University of Maryland Student Attacked in Attempted Kidnapping: Police

The suspect is a white male with an unhealthy, thin appearance, police say

Police are searching for a man who knocked down a female University of Maryland student and tried to drag her off.

The student was walking on the 4700 block of Harvard Road in College Park, near New Jersey Avenue, around 11:45 p.m. Thursday, a residential area.

A male wearing black sunglasses and a black hoodie knocked her over and tried to pull her in the opposite direction. The victim's screams were heard by two bystanders who ran to help, police say.

The suspect then ran away, headed towards Baltimore Avenue, police say. The suspect is a skinny white male with an unhealthy, thin appearance, police say. He's about 30 to 35 years old. He was carrying a black backpack.

The attack was reported to police the following day, UMD police say.

Police are reviewing video footage from nearby.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Prince George's County Police.

When informing the public about the incident, The University of Maryland reminded students that they will provide an escort to anyone who feels unsafe.
