University of Maryland Police Investigate “Hate” Crimes

University President Wallace D. Loh said these incidents will not be tolerated

Police at the University of Maryland are investigating what they call hate crimes on Thursday morning.

Officials at the University were made aware of anti-Semitic messages and symbols written in an elevator in the Biology-Psychology building.

In a separate incident, a Facilities Management supervisor found a noose in the Computer Science building, which is being renovated.

In a statement, University President Wallace D. Loh said, “These incidents are abhorrent. The University of Maryland does not tolerate hate or bias in any form. And, it is the right of all members of our community to work and live in an environment in which they feel safe, respected, and included.”

Police do not believe the two crimes are connected.
