Two Women, Dog Rescued From NE DC Apartment Fire

Two people and a dog were rescued from an apartment building in northeast Washington, D.C., on Monday evening.

Fire crews were called to the 1400 block of Downing Street NE around 9 p.m. for a fire on the first floor. They were able to knock down the fire quickly and rescued one woman from the apartment.

The victim was transported to the hospital with injuries described as critical and life-threatening. A firefighter was also taken to the hospital with non-serious injuries.

A second woman was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Firefighters also rescued a dog from the apartment above the fire.

Investigators are searching for a cause of the fire.
