Two Teens Shot While Walking to Synagogue Event

Two teenagers on their way to a synagogue were shot late Saturday night after gunfire at a nearby fight, according to the Greenbelt police department.

Police said the two teens were walking to the Mishkan Torah Synagogue on Ridge Road for an event just before midnight when they saw an altercation break out as they were getting close. Someone fired a gun several times, and both teens were hit.

One teen, 16, from Laurel, was hit in the shoulder. The other teen, 19, from Lanham, was struck in the rear torso.

Both teens were taken separately to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said there does not appear to be any direct connection between the shooting and the synagogue other than nearness of location.
