Police: Security Guards ‘Targeted' in Shooting; 1 Dead

Two security guards were shot early Friday morning in Prince George's County; one has died.

The other guard was shot in the lower body and is in stable condition at a hospital.

Police say they believe the two guards, at the Central Garden Apartments complex on Cindy Lane in Capitol Heights, were sitting in their cars filling out paperwork after midnight when they were approached and shot.

Adrian Kinard, 26, of northeast D.C., died at a hospital. The other security guard is expected to survive.

Police suspect the two were targeted. They say the shooting was not a random act.

A resident told News4's Megan McGrath that she heard five gunshots between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. Neighbors said the apartments have armed security guards that routinely patrol the area.

It's not clear if the guards fired their weapons.

Kinard's brother was also a victim of gun violence. He was shot to death in the Trinidad neighborhood of D.C. in 2010.

Kinard was the father of a 1-year-old girl.
