Two Pedestrians Struck in Mont. Co.

Husband and wife suffer life-threatening injuries

Two elderly pedestrians have been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car Sunday morning in Kensington.

Police say that 77-year-old John Whalen and his 74-year-old wife Dorothy, both of Cable Drive in Kensington, were walking along Summit Avenue when they were struck by a 2003 Hyundai Sonata driven by Mary Ann Harrington, 68, of Germantown.

Harrington was driving north on Summit Avenue shortly after 10 a.m. when her car went off the road just before the intersection with Prospect Street and struck the Whalens.

Investigators say that Harrington suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call (301) 840-2435.
