Two Dead, Four Injured in 3-Vehicle Crash

Route 340 in Frederick County Closed for Investigation

Maryland State Police said two people were killed in a three-vehicle collision in Frederick County, Md., Saturday afternoon.

Cpl. Todd Hill said the accident occurred in the westbound lanes of Route 340, east of Mt. Zion Road near Frederick.

The two people who were killed were identified as Danny Harrah, 68, of Williamsport, Md. and Patricia Hornick-Rexrode, 44, of Hampstead, Md.

Four others were injured. Three of the four were transported via helicopter to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. The fourth person was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital.

The preliminary investigation showed a 2004 Ford Expedition driven by Harrah was traveling eastbound on Route 340. An eye witness reported the vehicle went out of control, crossed the center median and traveled into the westbound lanes.

The Ford struck a 2012 Toyota Prius, driven by Hornick-Rexrode, and then a 2013 Honda Pilot traveling in the westbound lanes.

The westbound lanes of Route 340 were closed during the investigation but were reopened late Saturday afternoon.
