Truck Crashed Into Supermarket in Failed ATM Theft

After trying but failing to steal ATM, thieves left truck inside supermarket

The Frederick County Sheriff's Office says thieves stole a truck and then drove it through a supermarket window in a failed attempt to steal an ATM.

Investigators say the truck was stolen in Mount Airy less than an hour before the truck crashed through the window of the Food Lion in New Market early Thursday.

Food Lion assistant manager Jay Smith told the Frederick News-Post that the store reopened later that day.

The sheriff's office says at least two people were in the stolen Ford F550 work truck when it crashed into the supermarket. After trying but failing to steal the ATM, the thieves left the truck inside the supermarket.

Maryland State Police are investigating the truck theft.
