Triple the Tragedy in Williamsport

Three deaths in one day

WILLIAMSPORT, Md. -- Three deaths. Three separate incidents. One day.

The odds of that ever happening are incredible, yet it's the reality that the Williamsport High School Class of 2004 will have to deal with the rest of their lives.

Two members of that graduating class and a graduate of another local school died Thursday, according to the Herald-Mail.

Nick Adenhart, a pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels who was born in Silver Spring, was killed in a car crash in California.

His classmate, Benjamin Burger, died the same day after falling at a construction site.

And Ryan Myers, who graduated in 2004 from nearby Grace Academy, also died that day after being run over by a tractor-trailer while riding a motorcycle, according to the Herald-Mail.

The impact of the deaths is just starting to sink in.

“I think some of our classmates are thinking, ‘My goodness, who’s going to be next?’” Branda Yeargan to the paper. “Every time we turn on the news, no one knows what we’re gonna face next. Now we understand that we can’t expect all of us to make it to our five-year reunion.”

Yeargan felt the need to post an inspirational message to her classmates on their Facebook group. Read it here.
