Trial Set for Ex-Scout Leader Accused of Sex Crime

A December trial is scheduled for a former Keswick scout troop leader on sex charges involving a boy who was a member of his troop.

David Brian Watkins, 50, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to three counts of forcible sodomy with a child under 13, various media outlets reported.

Watkins waived his right to a jury trial and will face a bench trial in Albemarle County Circuit Court. If convicted of all charges, he would face life in prison.

The alleged incident occurred in 2005. Watkins led Keswick Troop 1028 from 2002 to 2008.

The scout is now an adult.

Watkins is being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
