Trash Collections Suspended for DPW Worker's Funeral

Trash collection in Washington will be suspended Thursday so sanitation staffers can attend the funeral of a Department of Public Works employee.

Funeral services for 51-year-old Larry Hutchins of Suitland, Md., will be held Thursday. Hutchins, a 24-year employee of the department, was fatally shot last week at a DPW lot while preparing for duty.

A second worker who was shot was listed in good condition.

Police said last week that the shooting did not appear to be random. Police said Monday that they do not have any updates on the investigation.

All Thursday trash and recycling collections, including once-a-week collections, will slide to Friday and Friday's collection will be picked up on Saturday.
