Traffic Alert: Elephant Closing DC Street During Rush Hour

WASHINGTON -- Drivers should avoid DeSales Street near the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel in Northwest during rush hour Friday afternoon, unless they want catch a glimpse of an elephant.

The hotel is hosting the traditional Indian wedding of Shilpa Maheshwari and Neil Agarwal. The Baraat ceremony includes a family procession down DeSales with the groom arriving on an elephant, the traditional wedding transport for Hindu and Sikh grooms.

At about 4:30 p.m., the family -- with the elephant -- will proceed from DeSales and Connecticut Avenue to the hotel's 17th Street driveway.
