Togo Embassy Slasher Likely to Be Deported

A man who slashed three people with a knife in 2009 at the Embassy of Togo in Washington has been sentenced to time served and will almost certainly be deported.

Under a plea agreement with prosecutors Kokou Bocco pleaded guilty in December to assault on a foreign official while armed.

On Monday a judge sentenced him to time served, meaning that the more than 15 months he spent in jail ends his sentence. However, immigration officials are now holding Bocco, who is from Togo. His attorney said he will likely be deported.

According to court documents, Bocco went to the embassy in northwest Washington to renew his passport and became upset when he was told he would have to wait for a new document. He then pulled out a knife, cutting three people during a struggle.
