Timber! Tree Falls on Busy Road

No one injured in bizarre accident

If you think you’ve had a bad day, imagine what it’s like to be the driver of the silver SUV buried under the big, leafy tree in this picture.

The tree crashed onto the westbound lanes of Randolph Road near Connecticut Avenue in the Glenmont area of Silver Spring, Md., about 11:30 a.m., police said. In an unusual twist, the tree was not brought down by decay or weather. The cause, at least in part, was a large white box truck traveling in the right lane of Randolph Road, according to police. The box part of the truck struck the tree and knocked it down onto the moving SUV, police said.

No one was injured.

Randolph Road was closed for several hours while the tree was removed and some downed phone lines were repaired.
