Tighter Security Holds Up Fans at UMd. Football Game

The University of Maryland has announced increased security measures for all future Maryland athletic events, which will include Maryland’s football game against Indiana Saturday at noon.
Senior Day festivities will begin at 11:45 a.m.

For Maryland’s regular season home finale, gates will open at 10:30 a.m., and fans should plan on leaving early for the game to avoid long lines with these additional security measures.

All persons and their belongings will be subject to search prior to admittance. Fans are permitted to bring small bags, up to 8 inches x 11 inches x 12 inches, in size to the stadium.

News4's Tisha Thompson said there were still people outside the gates 20 minutes after kickoff who were still trying to get inside the stadium. She said the lines were still long, because they were searching and tagging bags, patting down and using a metal detecting wand on everyone.

All other bags, including backpacks, will not be allowed. Guests are encouraged to return unauthorized items to their vehicles. The University of Maryland cannot safeguard items which are not permitted into the stadium.

Fans attending the game should be prepared for the screening process to occur at all stadium gates. Students with tickets and their school identification card can enter the game through Gate D and E.

Parking lots will be open six hours prior to kickoff.
