Three Guilty in 2009 Robbery and Murder

Three men in their 50s pleaded guilty Wednesday to robbing and murdering a man in Northwest D.C. in December 2009.

According to court records, Paul Ashby, 50, Keith Logan, 51, and Merle Watson Jr., 56, conspired to kidnap and rob 36-year-old Carnell Bolden Dec. 30, 2009. The men lured Bolden to Logan's home in the unit block of W Street NW, severely beat him and tied him up. They then went to get his car and realized Bolden's girlfriend was inside.

Ashby drove Bolden, still tied up and unconscious, to the 3000 block of Park Drive SE. He took him out, dragged him to the woods and shot him at close range, killing him.

While Ashby was transporting Bolden, Logan shot at Bolden's girlfriend as she sat in the car four times. She was hospitalized and survived the attack.

Ashby, Watson and Logan were found guilty of first-degree murder while armed, aggravating circumstances, conspiracy, kidnapping while armed, armed robbery, and weapons offenses. Logan was also found guilty of assault with intent to kill while armed, aggravated assault while armed, and mayhem while armed, for the attack on the potential witness.

The three men will be sentenced Oct. 9. and face minimum sentences of 30 years in prison.
