‘This is Home': Art Space in Southeast DC Welcomes All

For Southeast residents, NonStop Art is a free space to go to create art

Yearning for a place to express your creative side? At NonStop Art, a maker space in Congress Heights, residents gather to screen print, sew and learn new ways to get making.

For Southeast residents like Edith Tate, it's a space to go outside of her apartment that keeps her active and social.

"It keeps my mind occupied, it keeps me out of trouble," she said.

Many others have found NonStop to be a welcoming place since it opened in 2017.

"This is home," NonStop Founder Nehemiah Dixon said. "Everyone is welcome here."

The space offers free help and training with sewing machines, 3D printers, screen printing supplies and other creative tools.

Artists can also learn the business side of creating so that they can one day sell their work.

"It's just a joy to be able to do something," artist Florestine Jones said, "and to know that if you can't someone is here to help you."

NonStop Art is located at The Overlook at Oxon Run at 3700 9th Street SE, and is open from 3-8 p.m. Find out more about what's possible at NonStop on their website here.
