Thieves Target Holiday Mail in Maryland

Hundreds of mailboxes ripped off

The search is on for the thieves who ripped open hundreds of letters and holiday packages meant for families in our area.

It happened early Sunday morning in the Sentry Woods subdivision and surrounding areas in Waldorf, police said.

The thieves went through mailboxes, opening both mail and packages in a hunt for cash, gift cards and other valuable items. Anything they didn't want was thrown out on the street in nearby neighborhoods or dumped at a nearby park.

Homeowners are being urged to contact the companies with whom they do business about any missing mail or bills.

Crime Solvers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the suspects.
