Thief Posing as Maintenance Man at Leesburg Pike Medical Offices

Thief pretends to check vents as though he is on a maintenance call

Fairfax County Police are warning people about a thief who's hit multiple doctors' offices throughout the area.

He's posing as a maintenance man to gain access to the buildings around the Leesburg Pike area, NBC4's Tony Tull reports.

The suspect is pictured in surveillance images wearing blue work pants, a blue shirt, and a neon green traffic vest. Detectives say he's worn the same outfit every time.

The thief apparently walks into medical offices and steals purses and wallets while patients are receiving cancer treatments and rehabilitation as he pretends to check vents as though he is on a maintenance call.

Police are aware of seven such thefts, but a police spokesperson says there may be more.

"...[P]eople may not have even recognized that certain credit cards have been used, or that certain things from their purses or wallets may be missing," she said.
