There She Blows! Gas Main Break Causes Traffic Trouble

Drivers urged to avoid area after gas main break

A gas main ruptured early Friday on Route 1 just south of Route 32 in Laurel, causing a bit of traffic trouble during the morning commute.

Construction crews working in the area caused the break at about 3 a.m.

Electricity in the area has been shut off, but authorities have been having trouble shutting off the gas to the line.

Baltimore Gas & Electric company has a crew on the scene working on the leak.  There have been no evacuations, and no customers have lost gas.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area, taking Interstate 95 as an alternate route. Work could continue into the night, according to BG&E.

The incident remains under investigation.
