Teen Seriously Hurt in Silver Spring Car Crash

Sirens filled the air Thursday morning in Silver Spring, Maryland, as police responded to a car crash that left a teenager hospitalized.

First responders found the teen in the backseat of the vehicle on Wayne Avenue in serious condition with wounds, police said.

Police initially reported the teen had been shot. They later found out he was injured by flying glass.

Two other teens were reportedly in the front seats of the car that police say was stolen. They ran from the scene after crashing into a gray minivan on Wayne Avenue near Dale Drive.

“Obviously we want to talk to them. We were looking for them ... not sure why they ran away,” an officer said.

Concerned neighbors worry about the crash’s proximity to Sligo Elementary School.

“That’s a little bit disconcerting when, yeah, the kids were coming to school and all here,” one neighbor said.

Police are still looking for the two teens for questioning and to understand their connection to the stolen car.
