Teen Sentenced to 48 Years in Prison

Ashleigh Nicole Dye shot and stabbed her 62-year-old mother last July, police say

A Stafford County teenager has been sentenced to 48 years in prison for killing her mother.

Ashleigh Nicole Dye was sentenced Monday in Stafford Circuit Court. She pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and using a firearm in a felony in January.

Dye was a few months shy of 18 when she shot and stabbed 62-year-old Brenda Dye last July 5 at the family home. Ashleigh Dye told police her mother was standing between her and her boyfriend.

The Free Lance-Star reports that the investigation showed Ashleigh Dye and the boyfriend, Eddie Chewning, planned the murder, and Dye carried it out.

Chewning was recently convicted of being an accessory to both first-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. His sentencing is set for July 6.
