A teenage boy who was suspected in a number of crimes in Spotsylvania County was shot and killed after a confrontation with deputies Thursday.
Jamil Harvey was wanted for a number of offenses, including shooting into an occupied dwelling and possession of a stolen vehicle. Investigators said he ran away from New Jersey.
Deputies were called to the 10800 block of Cedar Post Lane at 11:15 p.m. Sunday for a report of a drive-by shooting. Witnesses told police someone in a dark Volkswagen drove by the house and fired several shots.
No one was injured, but there was some property damage, Sheriff Roger Harris said at a news conference Friday.
Another drive-by shooting was reported at the same home the next day.
During their investigation, the sheriff's office learned a handgun had been stolen from the home during a burglary earlier in the year and that the New Jersey teenager may have been involved.
Harris said the teen was also suspected in the theft of a black Volkswagen in New Jersey.

Deputies found the stolen Volkswagen in Spotsylvania County on March 3 and learned a white BMW has been stolen nearby.
Investigators traced the suspect to the Salem Fields Community, where they found the stolen BMW parked outside a townhome.
The deputies were able to make contact with the suspect but saw that he had a gun. They ordered him to drop it, and initially, he complied, Harris said.
But as the deputies approached him, the teen picked up his weapon and pointed it at the deputies. A deputy exchanged gunfire with the suspect, and the teen was stuck several times.
The deputies began life-saving efforts, but the teen died from his injuries at the hospital.
No other injuries were reported.
Harris said the teen had family in the area, and they have been notified.
The deputy involved is a 16-year veteran of the sheriff's office. He has been placed on routine administrative leave.
