Teen Arrested in Craigslist Robberies

A 17-year-old is facing several charges after setting up iPhone sales on Craigslist.com then robbing potential buyers, police said.

In at least three cases, the teen would set up meetings with potential iPhone 5 buyers at George Cromwell Elementary School on Wellham Avenue in Glen Burnie, Md. He would then take out what the victims thought was a black semi-automatic handgun and robbed them of money and their cell phones, police said.

During an Aug. 3 incident, the suspect discharged what appeared to be a pellet from the gun which struck the victim's car. A similar case was reported July 29. Police later found out the teen had been using a Pellet gun made to look like a handgun.

Aug. 5, a detective posing as a potential buyer set up a meeting with the suspect. Once at the school, the suspect approached the detective with a handgun and attempted to rob him. As additional crews responded the suspect fled on foot but was later apprehended and arrested.

He is facing multiple counts of armed robbery and related offenses stemming from robbery investigations.

Investigators found the teen had at least six other selling appointments scheduled.
