16-Year-Old Shot, Killed Inside Northwest DC Home

A 16-year-old died after being shot Friday inside a Northwest D.C. home, devastating the neighborhood community.

Gunshots fired about 4 p.m. were loud enough to be heard outside the brick walls of a row house on the 700 block of Princeton Place Northwest. A passerby who heard the shots flagged down an officer patrolling the area.

First responders found the shooting victim and took him to a hospital, but he did not survive his injuries.

Police Chief Peter Newsham said there were several people inside and outside the home who were taken to be interviewed.

The shooting investigation took place while D.C. police were conducting an unspecified enforcement activity in an alley around the corner. Officials say that activity was unconnected to the shooting.

D.C. Police data shows 51 homicides have been investigated so far this year. Over the same period in 2017 and 2018, 33 and 37 homicides were reported, respectively, police data shows.
