Teachers Want Raises Despite Layoff Threat

Arlington survey discovers teachers' views on school issues

Arlington teachers say they want raises -- even if it means layoffs.

That's according to a survey of employees done by the school system and reported in the Sun Gazette Newspaper.

The survey was conducted to get staff opinions on options for weathering current economic troubles.

Of the 1,000 people questioned, a third said they're in favor of raises no matter what else comes with them.

About a fourth said they'd give up any raises to avoid layoffs.

School staff was split 50-50 over increasing class sizes to save money.
