Teacher Accused of Failing to Report Sexual Abuse

Police: Two students reported sexual abuse to teacher

An elementary school teacher in Prince William County, Va., was charged with failure to report suspected abuse to authorities, police said.

Two students independently told Esther Castillo, 46, a teacher at Marumsco Elementary School, about sexual abuse following a March 30 “Hugs and Kisses” presentation at the school, but the teacher failed to report the allegations until April 12, according to police.

In Virginia, teachers must report suspected abuse or neglect within 72 hours.

Castillo turned herself in to police Friday, following an investigation.

The students’ allegations are under investigation.
