Target Same-Day Delivery for D.C. Area Launches Thursday

Starting Thursday, Target will offer same-day delivery in the D.C. area.

Target recently acquired the digital grocery marketplace Shipt, and customers can now use the Shipt app to order more than 50,000 items from Target – almost anything under 40 pounds.

A shopper will get your order in real time, and you can chat with the shopper through the app as they shop for you.

“So you can say, ‘Oh my goodness, I totally forgot to get eggs. Can you add that to my order?’” said Kit Naramore of Shipt. “The shopper gets the text, adds it to your order and you're taken care of.”

Goods are delivered within a 1-hour window.

Items not available for delivery include wine and beer, apparel, and shoes, but Target is working on getting every item in its stores included in the same-day delivery service by next year.

The service costs $99 per year, but you get unlimited free delivery on orders of $35 or more and if you sign up before midnight, the yearly subscription will only cost $49.
