Tandem Cyclists Killed by Alleged Drunken Driver

A husband and wife were killed Saturday when a drunk driver slammed into their tandem bicycle, the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. on Saturday in Chesapeake Beach.

Police said John Fauerby, 64, and Lynn Rosenbusch, 58, were riding a tandem bicycle on Tobacco Road when Catherine Lyon, who was driving a Jeep Cherokee, struck them from behind.

Police said the cyclists were ejected from the bicycle, and Rosenbusch was pronounced dead at the scene. Fauerby was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Rosenbusch's sister, Arlene Rosenbusch, said Lynn Rosenbusch was so badly injured authorities had a hard time identifying her.

"They couldn’t tell it was her until they saw her I.D.," Arlene Rosenbusch said, adding that her sister and brother-in-law were "a special couple devoted to each other."

Police say Lyon was intoxicated at the time of the wreck and has been charged with driving under the influence and vehicular homicide.
