Suspected Yoga Bandit Charged in Series of Thefts

D.C. police arrested a woman suspected in a series of thefts.

Cherylneshia Alexander, 27, broke into two women’s lockers at the Takoma Community & Aquatic Center and stole several credit cards while the women were in the pool, according to court documents.

Within minutes, those credit cards were used at nearby CVS stores, according to court documents. First at one on Carroll Street, then twice at one on Kennedy Street about a half-hour later. Within an hour, more than $1,500 was charged to the cards for toilet paper and gift cards.

Alexander also is suspected in thefts at a yoga studio in which surveillance video shows two women distracting a clerk while a third woman appears to take items from purses and backpacks.

A spokesperson for the U.S. attorney’s office said Alexander has been charged with similar thefts at three yoga studios, a gym in Northwest as well as the rec center.

Alexander is charged with several counts of theft and several counts of credit card fraud.
