A D.C. man charged with killing his 91-year-old wife is asking a judge to let him wear a military uniform whenever he goes to trial.
Albrecht Muth, who claims to be a staff brigadier general of the Iraqi Army, made the request in a seven-page handwritten letter submitted this week. The 47-year-old Muth was arrested in August and charged in the death of his wife, Viola Drath, a German-born socialite and journalist.
The Iraqi Embassy has said Muth has never been a member of the Iraqi army. Prosecutors have said in court papers that Muth admitted to detectives that he had his military uniforms tailor-made in South Carolina.
Muth has denied guilt. His wife died by strangulation and blunt-force trauma.
