Suspect Turns Himself Into Police; Leesburg Manhunt Ends

Search began with alleged shot fired at tow truck

The manhunt for a Leesburg, Va., man ended Wednesday when turned himself in to police about 4:30 p.m.

Police wanted to talk to Jonathan Cowden about a gun incident in his apartment parking lot and about a cache of weapons and a bulletproof vest they found in his house during a search. They believe at least one of the weapons and the vest were stolen from an FBI car last year.

A tow truck driver said someone fired shots at him Tuesday just after midnight in the parking lot on Plaza Street NE. He wasn’t hit, but his window was blown out.

The investigation led to Cowden’s home.

Cowden was charged with removal of a serial number from a weapon and possession of stolen property.
