Suspect Shot After Hitting Frederick Police Officer with Vehicle

A man tried to run down a Frederick City police officer Saturday evening and was shot by the officer.

Frederick police said officers were investigating a suspicious situation in the 1200 block of West Patrick Street around 11:20 p.m. Saturday. During the investigation, the driver, Roy Turner, 45, of Frederick, struck one of the officers with his vehicle.

The officer fired his weapon into the vehicle, striking Turner. The suspect continued on and was later stopped after a chase in the area of Baughmans Lane and Shookstown Road.

Turner was taking into custody and transported in the hospital. He is listed in serious, but stable, condition with a bullet wound to the upper arm.

Police said Turner was charged with several motor vehicle violations and felony – possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute. They did not name the substance.

The officer was also taken to the hospital, but he was treated and released.
