Stun Gun Disguised as Cell Phone Confiscated Before D.C.-Bound Flight

Woman allowed to board plane

A woman was allowed to board a flight from Los Angeles to D.C. after giving a cleverly disguised stun gun to authorities Monday night.

The woman told the TSA that she forgot she was carrying the stun gun, which was designed to look like a pink cell phone.

The TSA let her on American Airlines Flight 74 to Ronald Reagan National Airport without the stun gun.

TSA officers are trained to spot potential threats hidden as common items, a TSA official said.

TSA also acknowledged that most prohibited items discovered in screening are taken to airports accidentally but noted that concealed prohibited items could lead to civil penalties.
