Students Protest College Loan Debt in G20's Shadow

WASHINGTON -- About 50 student protesters from campus chapters of D.C. Students for a Democratic Society gathered at the entrance of the Department of Education to vocalize their frustration with loan debt.

They danced and chanted "Education is a right! Student power! Fight, fight, fight!"

The protesters also had letters delivered to national education officials requesting that they ease student college debt.

Jon Berger, a student at the University of Maryland at College Park, said education a right, not a privilege. The student protesters want to "convey that the education department needs to take steps to bail students out of loan debt," he said.

The students planned to continue their protest at nearby Lafayette Park.
