Woman Tries to Order Elementary School Students at Bus Stop to Get in Her Van

A woman tried to order two students waiting for a school bus to get into her minivan Thursday morning, according to Montgomery County Police.

Two Wilson Wims Elementary students told school officials they were waiting at the Snowden Farm Parkway and Sycamore Farm Drive school bus stop when a suspicious white minivan pulled up.

A woman told the students to "get in the van," at which point they ran to tell adults what happened, police said.

The school immediately called police and an officer went to the school to investigate. After hearing the students' story, the police department decided to step up police patrols, Wilson Wims principal Sean McGee wrote in a letter sent to students' homes Thursday.

An officer was placed near the school and bus stop Thursday afternoon. An officer will be there again Friday.

Montgomery County Public Schools sent a letter to notify parents of all nearby schools, and police are continuing the investigation.

The students have been commended for their actions, and parents have been advised to remind children to travel in groups, avoid strangers and notify a trusted adult if a stranger is hanging around the school.
