St. Mary's County Deputy Fatally Shoots Suspect During Arrest

Police say struggle led to weapon discharge

The Saint Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting involving a deputy.

Two deputies responded to a domestic assault call in Hermanville on October 20 at 3:19 p.m.

When they arrived on the scene, police say they found a female victim with visible signs of injury.

Deputies attempted to arrest the suspect in the assault, and a struggle ensued.  During that struggle, one of the deputies pulled and fired his service weapon.

The injured suspect, a 38-year-old man, died at the scene.

St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office says the deputy, a 6-year veteran, has been placed on routine administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
