Spotsylvania Rock Climber Killed In Fall

Body not recovered until early Saturday morning

A Spotsylvania man has died after a rock-climbing accident in the George Washington National Forest this weekend.

Police told Northern Virginia Daily that 38-year-old Adam Kopley was rock climbing Friday afternoon with three other people just across the West Virginia state line when something went horribly wrong, causing Kopley to fall to his death.

"My understanding is that he was killed instantly," West Virginia State Police Sgt. Michael Anderson told the paper.

Kopley's body was not recovered until around 2 a.m. Saturday due to jurisdictional confusion over the exact location of the accident. An investigation is ongoing.
