Southeast D.C. Store Closed for Allegedly Selling Synthetic Drugs

The Metropolitan Police Department closed a store in southeast D.C. for allegedly selling synthetic drugs.

Police executed an emergency closure of Smiley Mart on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard thanks to information from the community, according to Chief Cathy Lanier. Police requested the store's business license be revoked.

Police arrested 32-year-old Dagem Gessesse of Springfield, Virginia, and 40-year-old Sinafeke Ensunch of Silver Spring, Maryland, and charged them both with distribution of synthetic cannabinoids.

Lanier asked anyone in the community aware of synthetic drugs being sold to notify police.
