South Carolina Man Holds Ex-Girlfriend Captive in Her Virginia Apartment, Assaults Her

A man held a woman captive and assaulted her in her own apartment over the weekend, according to police.

At 3 a.m. Sunday, 24-year-old Ryan Keller, of Gafney, S.C., picked up his 22-year-old ex-girlfriend at her workplace in D.C., police said. Since he was drunk, the woman took the keys, but along Route 50 in Arlington, he allegedly began to attack her.

"He was thrashing about the car, punching her in the head, pulling her hair," said Dustin Sternbeck, of Arlington police.

After Keller threw the car into park, the woman tried to escape and call police, police said.

"He takes her phone and throws and then pulls a firearm on her, forcing her back into the vehicle," Sternbeck said.

Keller drove to the victim's home at Meridian Apartments, where he allegedly continued to assault her for about 30 minutes.

"He's assaulting her more, and that includes kicking, hitting, biting," Sternbeck said.

Eventually the victim managed to get away. Neighbors called 911, and police arrested Keller.

He was charged with abduction with intent to defile, felony strangulation, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, sexual battery, assault and battery, and unlawfully obstructing messages to law enforcement. He is being held without bond.
