Someone's Still Getting Away With the Murder of Fred Davis

Who killed Fred Davis? Police asked that in September 2009, after he was found suffering from a gunshot wound and died at an area hospital. Police were still asking a year later, with no suspect in custody. And they are asking again, two years after his death.

The 53-year-old contractor was remodeling a bathroom in a building on Forestville Road in Forestville, Md., when he was shot. He was on the phone with his brother at about 11 a.m. when the bullet went through his hand, through the phone and into his head.

Prince George’s County police don’t have a motive for the shooting. They believe it could be a case of mistaken identity, police said.

“I can’t find any reason anybody would want to kill Fred Davis,” Detective Sean Deere said.

Police have one clue: Shadowy video of the killer entering the building and then running from the scene.

“I have to live with this every day, and I wonder, What does that person think like?” said Davis’s wife, Mary. “They’ve had to live with it for two years, too.”

She met her husband when she was 11 years old, married him at 18 and was his wife for 32 years.

A $25,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.
